Referendum 1: Green for Green Fee
This measure, if approved, would institute a student fee of $15/student/quarter (pro-rated for part-time) to fund sustainability projects and initiatives involving UWT students on the UW Tacoma campus. The UWT Green for Green Fund created will be used to:
(1) Hire a full-time Sustainability Coordinator for the UWT campus;
(2) Hire 3 part-time, paid student Sustainability Interns; and
(3) Fund approved campus sustainability projects involving UWT students.
This measure also creates a new UWT Green for Green Committee; voting members on the Committee are the 3 Sustainability Interns and 2 ASUWT Senators selected by the Senate. Ex officio members of the Committee will include the Sustainability Coordinator, the Chair of the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability, and any others the Committee invites.
This measure also establishes the process for sustainability project approval. The Sustainability Coordinator will assist students in preparing project applications. Students will present their projects to the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability (consisting of student (3), staff (6), faculty (3) and administration (3) members) for comments. Proposals are edited to address these comments and the revised proposals are presented to the UWT Green for Green Committee for approval.
The Sustainability Coordinator oversees project budgets, processes reimbursements and invoice payments, acts as liaison to the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability (ex officio) and advises Sustainability Interns. Sustainability Interns sit on the UWT Green for Green Committee, help coordinate approved projects, and help maintain existing projects. The Coordinator and Interns may also initiate or participate in events that promote sustainability on or off campus.
Once a year the Sustainability Coordinator and the Sustainability Interns will present to ASUWT on that years funded projects, budget allocations, accomplishments and projections for the next year.
